Case 1:
Situation: Large multinational law firm, month-end crystal reports against Elite taking 7-10 hours to process.
Solution: Analyzed database schema and report design. Modified database schema to add appropriate indexes and remove redundant indexes. Created stored procedure to pre-calculate aggregate totals and removed slow sub-reports in crystal that were doing the same calculations.
Result: Report generation time reduced to 2-5 minutes.
Case 2:
Situation: Tokyo office of multinational securities firm, manual daily reports taking two staff 2-4 hours.
Solution: Used direct data connection in Microsoft Excel to firm’s Oracle-based trading system to extract relevant data. Used VBA and and Excel’s localized formatting features to produce complex format required by Japanese securities commission.
Result: Reports printed and ready to be sent to the commission within 10 minutes.
Case 3:
Situation: Multinational law firm with huge, monolithic Elite bill.exe file that was resulting in conflicting versions being sent to different offices. Updates for one office would break functions for another.
Solution: Re-designed Elite superbill generation to remove office-specific time and cost functions from core bill_cust.4gl file and modularized general 4GL functions to remove possibility of conflicting versions being distributed.
Result: Budget not approved to proceed. But client was extremely positive about future implementation.
Case 4:
Situation: Law firm required web service to query and update their records management system in Elite. This functionality was not provided by the Enterprise Web Service product.
Solution: Wrote web service in C# to permit the requested operations. Used combination of calls to the Elite back-end services and direct database updates where back-end functionality was insufficient.
Result: Client got exactly what they wanted and more as web service was easily able offer additional functionality.
Case 5:
Situation: Large Multinational Risk Management firm using Elite Enterprise for time and billing needed additional information entered into Webview time-entry to satisfy UK reporting requirements.
Solution: Modified Elite Enterprise schema to add tables, indexes and stored procedures to capture data and created Webview XML, XSL and Javascript code to provide interface elements needed to show the interdependent data-entry fields.
Result: Significant time savings and removal of invalid data entry that had plagued client before.
Case 6:
Situation: 200-user law firm required PDF generation for all staff. Traditional software licensing far exceeded firm’s IT budget.
Solution: Configured low-level extra server with Redhat Linux and utilized Samba Windows server emulation and PS2PDF to automatically install PDF printer on all workstations. Added toolbar button and VBA code to firm’s custom normal.dot Word template that printed the current document to the PDF printer which would then be emailed to the user. After implementation of Elite Enterprise, used this existing system to allow generation of PDF bills, proformas and other Whitehill reports. Software cost: $0 Time to develop: 12 hours.
